He didn't get demoted. He was phased out some, but the reason he's not around anymore is because Disney sold him. I THINK to Universal for another cartoon character (Oswald? Rabbit for a rabbit?). I cant' remember the specifics, but Disney no longer owns the rights to Roger Rabbit. That's not true....
